On August 2nd, 2009 a free Christian Music Concert opened under the St. Louis Arch. This concert was put on by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. According to Wikipedia, Evangelism is the practice of converting people to different religions. This is mostly reserved for Christan and Islamic Religions because they have put forth the most effort to gather followers.
The purpose of this concert was two fold. To tell people the good news about Christianity and to have fun. For those who were already avid Christians it was a great concert. The right messages were put forth, the right bands sang there songs, and the atmosphere was lots of fun.
However, I am not part of the usual Christan Rock Concert crowd. Most of the concerts that I attend are more........Metalish. If that makes any sense. The bands are scary and demonic. The kids are screaming and moshing and the message is mostly about freedom and teen angst.
The Rock the River tour was much different. First of all it was free. So the concert tickets were non-existent. The biggest issue was parking. Luckily, my group found parking pretty easily by the river. Next was the walk to the stage. First we had to walk from the rivers edge to the Arch Grounds. In the Arch grounds there were tents like you'd see at a regular Concert. It had a bit of a fair vibe. There were corn dog venders and t-shirt venders right next to each other. After we waded through the Fair ground we got to the fences that blocked off the grounds. We waited till 2 when the gates opened. Security at this event was non-existant. I know for a fact that I could have carried any number of weapons, knives, or guns into the premisis. I carried my wallet chain in. Most of the concerts I go into require me to remove it and leave it into the car. I wasn't frisked at all and most of the people at the concert wern't frisked. Only bags were checked. When we got into the concert lawn chairs and blankets were rampant. Many of them were boardering the pit. This was clearly a bad idea. Partioning the areas would have been an excellent idea. That way those who want to be in the croud can be in the croud and those who want to watch from blankets and lawnchairs can.
This was who was on the bill at the concert.
